Okay.... so, we've been busy.  Very busy!

Our team has been ministering to local school children in Guatemala City and in rural areas as well.  And NOW we are having more FUN.  So..... no more posts.  We are leaving tomorrow morning and will arrive around midnight Sunday.

Until then.... God Bless.  See you soon!

Sunday - Church and Antigua

Sunday was a really full day for our team.  It started out with us going to a "mega church" here in Guatemala city.  This church is huge, as it seats 12,000 people.  The worship was wonderful, and the songs were very familiar.  Some of us sang along in English, others decided to try it out in Spanish.  Either way, we were enjoying the experience very much.  Wow.... it was really awesome!

After church we went out for a great lunch! We had pizza, pasta, salads, and baked goods.... YUM!  This was just a pit stop to refuel for our adventures into Antigua.  Antigua is an old town, 500 years old, actually, and it is BEAUTIFUL.  We visited a monastery that was built in the 1500s, and we saw some really old ruins in this town.  The architecture was so interesting.  There were many indigenous people living and working in this town too.  We had some free time, so we wandered around and got the chance to buy a few souvenirs.

When we get home, ask us about all the details :)  We each had some interesting experiences, for sure!

We are attaching some some pics of our day...  Enjoy!

Photos Day 2

United Again!

Well, yesterday was definitely one of the craziest days of our lives!  We would prefer not to focus on all the chaos, but suffice it to say, we’ve come through a whole lot of trouble.

Our airline overbooked our flight, and they attempted to bump one of the youth plus all of the leaders from travelling to Guatemala!  Can you imagine the stress placed on our group?  Ultimately, there was no way we were going to make this trip happen without splitting up and hoping the airline would honour their promise to get the remaining 4 group members off to Guatemala to meet the 6 who flew out first.  Today, praise God, we were united, and we are so very VERY happy to be a complete mission team once again.

Our hosts, missionaries Hector and Ruth Aragon, have been tremendously supportive.  Ruth has prepared wonderful meals for us, while Hector has been responsible to give us our city tours, orientation, and has also prepared our schedules for ministry.  They have been a blessing, in every way and we are super thankful for their hospitality!

This morning, before meeting up with the rest of our team, we were able to join another pastoral couple to assist in ministry to a group of young children.  Our group did our presentation for them, and they, in turn, shared their presentation with us.  It was beautiful to see all of these little children worshipping Jesus with open hearts and faces set aglow with hope, wonder, and joy!
We are now preparing ministry supplies for the next few days before we settle in to another evening with a delicious meal and fellowship to follow.

We have been through a great ordeal with missing baggage, misdirected flights, and such.  The stress has been insurmountable.  As a result, we are weary…. But we are trusting God to provide us with the strength we need to do what we came to do, and to do it well.  We are here to share the GOOD NEWS, and that begins with what Jesus has done in us.

The enemy has a plan to throw us off focus, but we know God has bigger things in store, and we also know that He who has called us is forever faithful.

This is only the beginning, and we still have much work to do.  Tomorrow we will have a brand new day to yield ourselves all over again and to be used of God to reach the lost, to encourage the broken hearted, and to strengthen hearts for His glory.

We have confidence that while we are His service here, we will move ahead even stronger than we ever thought possible.  Forgetting what lies behind, and straining forward to what lies ahead – Philippians 3:14b J

Sincerely,

Legit Youth Guatemala Missions Team

Welcome!

Hey Everyone!!!

Welcome to the Legit Youth Missions Team blog!

We have been busy preparing ourselves for our upcoming trip to Guatemala.

One of our first team goals was to do some fundraising. We are excited to report that through the tremendous love of our friends, family members, and community, we were able to raise all the money needed for our trip.  Praise God!

We have also been diligently preparing for our assignment which will take us to Guatemala City in March for a period of 10 days.  During this time away, we will be ministering mostly to young children and adolescents in the local area.

Some of our planned activities will include:
  • delivering school supplies to students
  • distributing clothing to children in need
  • providing some laptop computers to a local school
  • supplying basic needs items for local families
We will also be engaging people through: dramatic presentations, musical and dance performances, and through sharing encouraging words of hope

As you can see, we will be demonstrating God's love for the Guatemalan people in a variety of practical ways!

We want to thank each one of you for helping us achieve our goal to make this missions trip possible.

We believe God is going to use us to make a difference in the lives of the children we are going to see. We also believe He will use the Guatemalan people to bless and greatly impact our own lives as well.

God bless you for all that you've done to help us get this far!

In His service,

The Legit Youth Missions Team
